Raleigh, N.C. — The weekend will end on a dreary but mostly dry note Sunday, but Tropical Storm Isaac threatens to bring more rain central and eastern North Carolina in the new week.

"Most of us are done with rain for the weekend," WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth said Saturday evening.

A few showers could drift off the Atlantic into eastern North Carolina Sunday, but most of the state will stay cloudy, dry and warm. The high will reach into the mid 80s in the Triangle.

Monday and Tuesday will see similar weather, with the temperatures and rain chances, particularly for the eastern counties, creeping up.

The week's main rain threat, though, will come from Tropical Storm Isaac.

On Saturday, the storm was hitting Cuba with 60-mph winds. It was forecast to strengthen into a hurricane while brushing along the Gulf coast of Florida and possibly making landfall around the Mississippi-Louisiana state line on Tuesday.

Once on shore in the U.S. mainland, Isaac will keep going north, but forecast models show it could still swing to either the east or the west.

"It's going to have a big affect on our weather as far as how much rainfall we get here next week," Wilmoth said. "Some of the models take it into our area, the remnants of it, and that could bring us some rain later next week."

At the most, the models show the Triangle getting 4 to 5 inches of rain from the remnants of Isaac between Wednesday and Friday.
