RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolinians can look forward to a stretch of mild, pleasant spring weather this week interrupted by only a rainy day or two.

"We can just enjoy some nice May weather, with temperatures in the 70s and 80s," WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said. "It'll be warm, but not as hot and sticky as it was at the end of last week."

The daily highs will hang around the 80-degree mark Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before a cold front rolls through the state.

"There may be a couple of stray thunderstorms in the western part of the viewing area late on Tuesday, but most of the rain with this system comes on Wednesday," Gardner said.

Some of the storms could be severe, with gusty wind and hail. The best chance for storms will come late Wednesday afternoon until about midnight.

"Behind that front, boy, the weather gets good," Gardner said.

Clouds will make way for the sun starting on Thursday, and temperatures will stay in the mid 70s the rest of the week.

"Our overnight lows drop into the mid 50s, so it's sleeping with the windows open weather. It looks just beautiful," Gardner said.
