Heat wave approaches NC
A mild Monday belies the sticky, sweltering and summer-like days to come later this week.

Clouds and a slight chance of rain or thundershowers will continue through Monday evening, and temperatures will stay in the mid 70s.
"Enjoy those pleasant temperatures, because we have near-record highs coming later in the week," WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.
On Tuesday, southerly winds will start to blow in heat and humidity from the Gulf of Mexico.
"It's going to feel like summer: very sticky, very warm, and we're going to throw in a chance of thunderstorms too for Tuesday and Wednesday," Gardner said.
The mercury will climb into the 80s Tuesday and Wednesday and possibly over the 90-degree mark Thursday and Friday.
"How about that? In a week's time to go from Saturday at 60 degrees to Thursday a high of 90. Crazy spring weather in North Carolina," Gardner said.
"You may think this is just so unusual, but it's actually not," she continued. "We typically do in the springtime have really big swings in our temperatures, but these temperatures – 90, 92 – are going to put us up toward record highs."
A slight cooldown will set in for next weekend. Temperatures will slide back into the mid 80s Saturday and Sunday.
