Jack Frost To Call On Region

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Central North Carolina will see the coldest temperatures so far this season over the weekend, as overnight lows drop into the 20s.

A high-pressure system moving in from the west Friday was expected to bring cold air from the north and northwest. Highs Friday and Saturday weren't expected to go higher than the low 50s -- about 10 degrees below normal for this time of the year.

Although the system will produce sunny skies, the lack of clouds at night means the temperature will drop quickly, into the upper 20s both nights. A freeze warning has been issued from most of central North Carolina, with the region expected to see its first hard freeze of the season.

The high-pressure system will move farther east on Sunday and the beginning of next week, bringing warmer winds out of the south and southwest. High temperatures are expected to return to the 60s, with overnight lows in 30s and low 40s.
