Warm temperatures to return for work week

Monday's cold start – much of the area saw lows dip into the low 30s overnight – will be short lived as sunny conditions allow temperatures to warm to near 50 degrees by lunchtime and into the upper 50s to near 60 by mid afternoon. 

"We're going to have some beautiful weather Monday," Gardner said. "We have clear skies across the entire state and we'll start to warm up this afternoon."

Lows will bottom out in the mid 30s overnight Monday.

Tuesday highs will be even warmer, with highs climbing into the mid 60s for much of central North Carolina. Average high temperatures in late January and early February usually don't get much warmer than the low 50s. 

Clouds will filter into the area from the south and west Wednesday, but the Triangle won't see a solid chance of rain again until Thursday afternoon and evening.

Highs both days will remain well above normal, climbing into the upper 60s.

"We'll have a wind shift to help warm us up in the next couple of days," Gardner said. "It'll even be warmer at night, with highs staying in the 40s and even 50s in some spots."

Partly cloudy skies Friday will give way to another chance for rain Saturday. Temperatures will also take a bit of a dive, with highs over the weekend falling back into the mid 50s.
