A frost advisory has been issued for numerous counties across central North Carolina and Virginia, including all of the Triangle and as far east as Nash County. Freeze warnings have been issued for the mountain counties in western North Carolina.
The advisory will be in effect from 3-8 a.m. Sunday, as another night of cold temperatures is expected late Saturday night and early Sunday morning. Lows in the lower 30s are expected over much of the Piedmont and coastal plain with mid 30s in the sandhills.
The risk of frost will be greatest in rural, low and open areas. People who would like to save sensitive outdoor plants should cover them or bring them inside tonight.
The cold weather might set a new record low for the Triangle on Sunday. The current record for Oct. 15 is 34 degrees, and the forecast calls for a low of 33 degrees.
After a cold front passed through North Carolina Friday morning, a high-pressure system will dominate weather across the Southeast over the weekend. It will bring plenty of sunshine along with chilly northwest breezes.
Highs Saturday and Sunday are forecast in the low 60s.
