Waterspout turns into tornado at Carolina Beach

Posted August 18, 2011

— Carolina Beach residents reported seeing tornadoes and at least one waterspout that moved onshore as storms rolled across the area late Thursday morning.

A waterspout – which is a tornado over water – moved onto land in the 1800 block of Canal Drive, prompting a tornado warning for the New Hanover County town, according to a report received by the National Weather Service.

Observers also reported numerous waterspouts that stayed offshore in New Hanover and Brunswick counties. Carolina Beach Water spout Waterspouts in Carolina Beach

I hope no one was hurt and that no one was on the North End(Freeman Park) when this happened. I also hope that Britt's Donuts did not get any damage.
Ive seen lots of waterspouts before, all but one stayed out in the water. The only one I have seen come on to land and turn in to a actual tornado was about 12 or so years ago when it hit Myrtle Beach near The Pavilion.

if the left wing got together with the right wing would they then be able to fly? hmmmmm?

Just a little humor to help offset the random name calling that happens with almost every news story :-)

Sounds like tommyaugustine84 is a little left wing liberal hater to get his panties in a knot over a few simple comments. He definitely needs to man up and try not to be so sensitive. I hope he finds that missing card in his deck.

Ms.Gardner, as many of her coworkers have become less about the "weather" more about they think they are "celebrity" "Hey look at me aren't I grand" Ms. Gardner consistantly tells and entertain you about YESTERDAY'S weather. And they like the "probablity" approach, that way they can always be right with any comment. Thats it ! Super Dupper Double Doppler 7000...over and out !

JMB: Is that the best point you have to prove? Other people's spelling? You're REALLY smart.

    P.S. I don't drink tea. Sorry.

I went to high school near CB and I remember once they locked the school down right before school was over for the day because a water spout had been spotted in CB. Since most of the kids were FROM CB and were gonna be bussed back home, they didn't risk it and kept the entire school over for about 45 minutes or so. It seemed pretty petty then, but being that they CAN form into tornadoes once they land, it was definitely a good idea.

"National Weather Service will travel to the area to investigate the reports of the tornadoes and waterspouts."

Uh...so the video isn't good enough for them?

Did any of the brilliant meteorologists at WRAL even have a clue that severe weather was a possibility at Carolina Beach? I know that Elizabeth Gardner is way too busy "happening" to be bothered with such trival things as "weather."
