Mostly clear until morning then we could wake up to some clouds. Once the clouds clear then we will be left with mostly sunny skies.

Monday

Mostly sunny and warmer. Highs in the upper 70s to around 80. High pressure will remain in place for the next few days producing cool mornings and warmer afternoons. By Wednesday and Thursday we may see the afternoon highs reach the mid and possibly a few upper 80s in some locations. The next cold front should move into the area for Friday and Saturday, with a chance at some rain and sharply cooler temperatures. Wind: E/NE, 5 mph.

Tuesday

Tuesday will be warm for this time of year. Our average highs are in the lower 70s so to see highs in the mid 80s is not all that common in October. This week we can expect highs to run about 10-14 degrees above normal. Wind: S-SW, 5 mph.

Wednesday

Mostly sunny and very warm. Wind: SW, 5-10 mph.

Thursday

Partly cloudy and warm. Wind: SW, 5-10 mph.

Friday

Variably cloudy with a few showers. Wind: Var, 10 mph.

Saturday

Rain early then some clearing late in the day. Wind: Var, 10-15 mph.

Sunday

Partly cloudy and continued cool. Wind: NE, 10 mph.

Question: The WRAL website once showed a temp of 75, humidity of 100%, with a heat index of 72. Is that true?

Answer: Good observation! The equation for Heat Index is only useful for temperatures 80 degrees or higher, and a relative humidity 40% or greater and should not have been used in this situation.
