Tornado touched down in Moore County

The collision of a cold front and the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee sparked a tornado on Tuesday in Moore County, the National Weather Service confirmed Wednesday.

PINEHURST, N.C. — The collision of a cold front and the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee sparked a tornado on Tuesday in Moore County, the National Weather Service confirmed Wednesday. 

The EF-0 tornado hit around 6:40 a.m. and had maximum sustained winds of 80 mph near Pinehurst. The damage was mostly contained to the Country Club of North Carolina. 

The National Weather Service said several clusters of trees along a path at the resort were damaged. Trees fell on two homes, but damage was minimal. The tornado sent extensive debris, including a small boat lifted out of a nearby pond, onto two properties. 

No injuries were reported.
