Partly to mostly cloudy skies to start the day with thickening cloud cover this afternoon with the chance for some light rain and sprinkles. Highs in the mid-upper 50s. Our arctic air mass is on the way and should move through the state tonight and tomorrow morning. Ahead of the front we have upper level energy which should yield the development of low pressure to our south and west of the state this afternoon. This system will move over us this evening and overnight bringing us the chance for some rain. The real cold punch of air should really arrive until tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night!

Arctic air headed to Triangle for weekend
Some of the coldest temperatures of the season will make their way to North Carolina this weekend following the passage of a cold front that could bring light rain to the southern parts of the viewing area late Friday, WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.
