Spring into the Weekend!

Spring starts Friday! This time of year we have some wacky weather in North Carolina. During the spring people really like to get out and explore, to shake off some of the winter's cabin fever.  You really do have to watch the forecast, though, because the weather can be very different from one day to the next.

I love to travel around North Carolina so starting this week I'm going to be blogging most Thursdays about places to go in NC for the weekend — all based on the weather.

Weather Overview

This weekend we'll see plenty of sunshine. High pressure will cross the east coast first bringing northeasterly, then southwesterly winds. So, we'll start off cool on Saturday with highs in our viewing area in the mid 50s and climbing into the low 60s by Sunday.  Both the beaches and the mountains will be cooler than central NC this weekend.

What to Do

A lot of trees and bulbs are blooming, especially the southern half of NC. So, even though temperatures will be cool, a trip south may contribute to your case of spring fever.  The Sandhills are a beautiful place to visit this time of year.  Highs Saturday are likely to be in the upper 50s, climbing to the mid 60s for Sunday.

If you ask me, that's perfect bike riding weather!  It's fairly flat in the Sandhills, too, so you don't have to be in great shape to enjoy a ride around Southern Pines and Pinehurst. There are beautiful neighborhoods and farms to explore.

Of course, there's fantastic golf to be played in the Sandhills.  If you enjoy equestrian events, you might also consider checking out the Southern Pines Horse Trials this weekend.
