What is the present drought situation for Randolph county? The ground is so saturated water stays on top.

Posted December 25, 2008

MIKE MOSS SAYS:       John,     Randolph County is currently not under any sort of drought condition, due to plentiful rainfall amounts over the past six months or so. Portions of the central and southern mountains of our state are still in severe to extreme drought, while moderate drought extends into the foothills and far western Piedmont. You can check a map detailing the areas under drought conditions at the North Carolina Drought Management Advisory Council web site. Here's the address:

Some shorter-term indicators such as the national crop moisture index show much of the state, including Randolph county, in an "abnormally moist" category.
