Which hurricane was the largest in size (area covered) among the Atlantic hurricanes over the years?

MIKE MOSS SAYS:       Brittany,    I've been unable to find an authoratative answer to that question so far, or an easily searchable list of wind radii for all Atlantic tropical cyclones. I do know that hurricanes Gilbert (1988) and Floyd (1999) were especially large storms in terms of how far from the center their tropical storm force winds extended at some points during the periods they existed. There is an item in the National Hurricane Center web site tropical cyclone FAQ page that cites Typhoon Tip as the largest ever, with a radius of tropical storm winds extending 675 miles from the center in 1979, but that was not an Atlantic system.
