What is the highest maximum sustained winds in a hurricane?

MIKE MOSS SAYS:       Noah,      I'm assuming you mean what are the highest that have been observed in any hurricanes so far. In that case, the current record known sustained wind speed for an Atlantic basin hurricane is 190 mph, observed in Camille (1969) and Allen (1980). Sustained winds in Typhoon Tip (Northwest Pacific basin, 1979) were also estimated to be 190 mph.
