In the N&O you stated that there isn't any record of both a record high and low on the same day (seems logical!). What's the local record for the maximum temperature swing in a single day? Ken Nelson

MIKE MOSS SAYS:       Ken,    The greatest swing within a single calendar day at RDU was recorded on Feb 1, 1981 when the mercury dipped to 8 degrees, followed by a mild afternoon high of 59, for a 51 degree span all in the same day. It's possible that an even greater range has been covered if you consider a single day as any 24 hour period spanning two days at some point, but what that value might be, if it is in fact larger, is not as readily determined.
