How Wet We Were!

Posted Updated

Although you may have been cursing the weather gods today because it was so Un-May like and miserable, we really, really needed the rain we saw and in some locations around the state it was a soaker!

Here are some of the climo. stats from selected locations around the state.

Hatteras: 5.64" of rain today which set a record for the day(and it's still raining as I write this).
For the month they have seen 7.53" of rain and have a surplus of over an inch for the year.

Wilmington: 2.71" of rain today which set a record for the day. For the month they have seen 3.83" of rain and still have a deficit of 1.47" for the year.

Lumberton: .03" of rain for the day. For the month so far .30" and the deficit is running a whopping 7.25" for the year.

Raleigh: .53" of rain for the day. For the month so far 1.17" and the deficit is still running at 2.22" for the year.

Greensboro: .20" of rain for the day. For the month so far .92" and the deficit is at 3.85" for the year.

Some other locations:

Elizabeth City: 2.69"
New Bern: 3.35"
Rocky Mount-Wilson: 2.38"
Roanoke Rapids: 1.41"
Beaufort: 5.94"

It looks like a ridge of high pressure will build aloft for the next several days. In fact starting tomorrow we will begin a string of warm days that will last through all of next week. If you like it like summer, then you will love the weather in the coming week.

By the way our high temperature at the Raleigh-Durham International airport reached 55 degrees this evening. This ties the previous record low high temperature for the day set back in 1992. So if you thought this May 6th was cold. YOU WERE CORRECT!!!!
