Will We Or Won't We???

Posted Updated

Boy the forecast for this weekend is tricky!

In an abnormally dry situation such as the one we are in now, we could use a good day of soaking rain and it appears that could be the case for Sunday. But it really all depends on what computer model you believe.

For the past few days we have been watching an area of tropical moisture over Florida and the Bahamas, hoping that this would make its way to North Carolina and Virginia. What we have been noticing on the computer models is a battle of high pressure. Some models suggest a ridge aloft over us would remain steadfast and shunt all that tropical moisture south of us. Another outlier including WRAL WeatherScope suggest that ridge aloft would weaken and allow for the moisture to move into the state on Sunday.

What we are noticing today is already a definitive move to the north of cloud cover and rain. So with that being said, we are going with a more optimistic forecast for rain on Sunday.

The official forecast for Sunday would be partly to mostly cloudy skies with showers becoming likely especially in the afternoon with perhaps a few storms. Highs in the mid 80s. With the door open for tropical moisture over the weekend, that should allow for the chance for afternoon and evening thunderstorms every day next week. Keep you fingers crossed!
