Pre-Thanksgiving Soaking?

Posted Updated

After seeing the pictures SKY 5 took of Falls Lake yesterday, I gained a better idea of how desperately dry we are across the region. The rainfall deficit at RDU stands at 8.89" as I write this. Is there some hope on the horizon??? It appears so...If you believe the model guidance.

From observing the models through the morning I am noticing a wetter pattern for Monday and Tuesday. Not just a wetter solution but perhaps a soaking. The best rain coverage our state has seen since August.

It is all part of the change in the Jet Stream pattern we have already felt with the cold wave currently upon us. Watch for a gathering of moisture across Florida over the weekend with one surface low trying to develop and then as a vigorous upper level low moves into the southeast, another low should 'bomb out' and intensify across the southern states. If all goes well rain should develop across North Carolina on Monday and last through Tuesday. Depending on the path of this low, we could see a very cold rain. Once this system passes we will be in for another cold snap as temperatures take a nose dive for Thanksgiving.

It is too early to tell how much rain we could see out of this system and I am not bold enough to be absolute about this solution. So stay tuned and watch Greg tonight at 5pm!
