Rainfall Update

Posted Updated

A warm front/cold front combination southeast of a strong low pressure area that crossed the Midwest back on Friday into Saturday morning brought a sizable, soaking rain to much of the viewing area, then left us with some beautiful though blustery fall weather for the remainder of the weekend, with wind gusts around 30-40 mph on Saturday afternoon and 25-30 mph on Sunday.

The Raleigh-Durham airport picked up .87" of rain from this system Friday and Friday night, in the lower end of the range of rainfall totals around the region, with a few of the other reports nearby including .83" in Cary, .96" for Louisburg, .86" at Greensboro, 1.4" for Roanoke Rapids and Erwin, 1.6" for Smithfield and Rocky Mount, and 1.1" at the Fayetteville airport.

The rainfall leaves RDU with 12 inches of rain since the first of September, about 4.8 inches above normal through that time frame.
