I had high expectations for Le Tour de Femme and I was not dissapointed. The festivities kicked off on Friday night with ladies night at Cycling Spoken Here bike shop. There was live music, cupcakes, great sales, massages, etc. It was a fun evening.
I blogged a couple of weeks ago about a training ride I did with the Grab My Wheel folks. They're the organization who puts on the ride. They were so kind to me then. When I arrived Saturday morning for the ride one of them noticed that I didn't have a water bottle cage. I was still borrowing a bike so I didn't feel like I could put on on it. The kind gentleman wouldn't let me go without water and got me outfitted and pumped up my tires all while trying to get ready for the event to start. I felt terrible that once again I was a "liability". I was really hoping to me more of a help...
I am part of 5 1/2 hours of news every day and as you know a lot of it is bad. So it was truly a treat to be exposed on Sunday to all that's good in the world. I know that may sound a little dramatic but that's really how I felt.
On Sunday I met up with a group of folks from the Grab My Wheel organization. It was my real group ride leading up to Le Tour de Femme. While I've done plenty of mountain biking, it's different experience and culture than riding in a group on the road. So these nice folks spent their entire morning helping me along. As a kayak instructor I know that it's fun to teach something that you love. However, it's not the same experience as going out and doing it on your own. So I really appreciate the kind and laid back attitude they all shared toward me on our ride. It was a gorgeous morning and I had a wonderful time. It made me look...
When I started this blog, the premise was to write about the struggles of fitting exercise into a busy life. Even though I've been training for triathlons for more than 6 months, it continues to be just as challenging to fit it in. I was able to sneak in one ride this week. I put my daughter on the tag-a-long and we hit the greenway on Tuesday.
Right now I'm training for Le Tour de Femme. It's a women's only bike ride in Cary on Oct. 9. It benefits cancer charities: The Lance Armstrong Foundation and the Rex Hospital Angel Fund. I'm planning to ride the 31 mile route, but if you've been struggling to fit exercise in there's a 15 mile route. There's also a 62 mile route for you wonder women!
The ride starts at Cycling Spoken Here in Cary. They host rides nearly every day of the week. I'm planning to be there Sunday at 9 a.m. for one of their group rides. Come join me!
If you can't make...
The summer has flown by and all of sudden it's only a month until Le Tour de Femme!
Hey gals! The summer has flown past and all the fall races/events are coming up on us quickly. I wanted to let you know about a great event that WRAL is involved with in Sepr. Le Tour de Femme www.letourdefemme.org is Saturday October 9th. It's a women's only ride that benefits cancer charities. You can pick your distance: 15, 31.2, or 62.4 miles. So...no excuses! It seems like October is a long way off but in reality it's only 7 weeks until the ride. Now is the time to sign up and start training. Here's a little more incentive: At packet pickup on Friday before the race there will be a cupcake party! No guilt since you'll ride them off the next day :) I'll be there. Join me!
