Triangle snowstorms through the years
The Triangle has seen plenty of snow through the years, from icy flurries that created nightmarish gridlock in 2005 to the heaviest snowfall ever in the region in 2000.

A snowstorm that lasted 12 hours in some locations dumped upward of 6 inches of the white stuff across North Carolina Tuesday.

Heavy snow showers were reported in downtown Durham, in Cary and in Raleigh Tuesday afternoon. An upper-level area of low pressure moving out of the area was "squeezing out some snow flurries," WRAL meteorologist Nate Johnson said.

The Triangle had its biggest snow storm in history in 2000. Snow began falling just before midnight on Jan. 24 and ended the next afternoon. When it was over, 20 inches had fallen.
