Question: I have noticed the moon in the middle of the day between the hours of noon and 3:30 pm. How or why is that possible?

Answer: When the moon is full or nearly so, it is on the opposite side of the earth from the sun and is mainly above the horizon at night, and vice versa when it is new or nearly so. However, between those times, the moon is above the horizon during some portion of daylight hours, and when a significant fraction of the side of the moon facing earth is lit by the sun, it is bright enough to see even in the daytime sky. Only a few other celestial objects (very rare comets and supernovae, for example) are bright enough to see during the day.
