Wayne health officials warn of possible hepatitis A exposure

The exposure might have occurred between Dec. 1 and Dec. 7 because of an infection in an employee of Fruity Yogurt, at 317 Spence Ave., officials said. The employee was diagnosed on Dec. 14, and anyone who was exposed could experience symptoms as early as Thursday and as late as Jan. 25, officials said.

Hepatitis A is usually spread by eating or drinking items that have been contaminated with the virus or by close personal contact with an infected person. Symptoms include fever, loss of appetite, diarrhea, nausea and abdominal discomfort. Urine may become darker in color, and jaundice may appear.

People who visited the yogurt shop on Dec. 7 are asked to go to the Wayne County Health Department, 301 N. Herman St. in Goldsboro, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday to get vaccinated against the hepatitis A virus.
