Wayne authorities: Man confesses to killing son-in-law in 1993
A Louisiana man was indicted Wednesday on a first-degree murder charge in the death of his son-in-law 24 years ago in Wayne County, authorities said.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office said it was contacted by authorities in Livingston Parish in Louisiana two months ago, who said a man there had confessed to a 1993 murder in North Carolina.
Allen Deaver told authorities that he had killed his son-in-law, Sidney Maurice Gregory, by beating him and then setting his mobile home on fire with him in it.
Wayne County authorities and the State Bureau of Investigation looked through old records and found an unsolved case from Feb. 7, 1993, that matched Deaver's details. Gregory was found in the bedroom of his burned mobile home in the Seven Springs community, and an autopsy determined that he had died of blunt force trauma.
Investigators interviewed several people in Wayne County and traveled to Louisiana to talk to Deaver before turning the case over to prosecutors, who took it to a grand jury this week.
Deaver, whose confession came on the 24th anniversary of the crime, according to authorities, is now in custody in Louisiana awaiting extradition to North Carolina.
