Water troubles close Durham Co. admin building

Posted November 30, 2010

— Durham County’s administration building was closed Tuesday morning because of a water main break.

The county said in a news release that city crews were working to restore service at the building, at 200 E. Main St., Durham.

It provided no other details about the leak or when the building might reopen.

FHA loans calculate interest on the first of the month. No recordings happened in the Register of Deeds today. You'd hope that the county would allow for the lost day but with absolutely no one answering any phones and without any informational voicemail available, who knows.

why the extra day of interest?

We had a house closing today. For anyone with an FHA loan (and there are many of us), the difference of one day means a whole extra MONTH of interest!

The City and County have been absolutely non-responsive in giving us information (getting finger-pointing between the City and County), why the County administration shut down (surely there are buildings elsewhere that can be used) and what we can do to get information and remedy the situation.

Any administrative numbers are not going to voicemail nor are they picking up. An entire county has essentially shut down!!!
