RALEIGH, N.C. — A water main break continued to cause chaos Tuesday for drivers on East Six Forks Road in Raleigh.

It was late Sunday that the water main break forced a portion of the road to close between Anderson Drive and Selby Drive near Wake Forest Road.

Officials said that although the 12-inch water main has been repaired, crews must now repave the road, which requires additional time. But drivers say they are frustrated by the lack of detour signs.

"I'm on my lunch break right now at work and I'm just trying to find out how to get out of this neighborhood and get to Kroger," said Sherri Deloach.

Melissa Alexander said she was following drivers ahead of her, but ultimately got lost. Beth Savage said the same.

"I was just trying to follow cars in front of me that were trying to do the same thing," she said.

The road is expected to open by 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Drivers heading north on the road are advised to proceed onto Wake Forest Road and merge onto Interstate 440 to exit at Six Forks Road. Drivers traveling south on East Six Forks Road should merge onto I-440 at Six Forks Road and exit at Wake Forest Road.

Drivers can access the U.S. Post Office at 350 East Six Forks Road and nearby businesses through the shopping center entrance off of Wake Forest Road.
