Water main break closes Fayetteville thoroughfares

Water main breaks in  Fayetteville closed roads and diverted traffic as frozen water caused treacherous driving conditions Tuesday evening.

Morganton Road was closed between Churchill Drive and Dobbins Avenue and Northview Drive was closed between Morganton and Huntingdon roads.

Some residents near the breaks lost power when vehicles slid into power poles, police said.

Authorities said the roads would remain closed through Tuesday night. Drivers are urged to use Fort Bragg and Raeford roads as alternate routes.
