CARY, N.C. — Two sections of Waldo Rood Boulevard in Cary remained closed Tuesday evening due to two separate water main breaks.

The first break happened on Monday, closing the road from Cary Parkway to MacArthur Drive. The Town of Cary said the road would not reopen for the evening commute, though Cary Parkway remained open.

Cary officials said drivers should avoid the area or use MacArthur Drive as a detour.

A second water main break on Waldo Rood Boulevard shut down the street from Jenks Carpenter Road to Methven Grove Drive. Town officials said a 36-inch water main broke in the area.

Traffic was being diverted to David Drive and High House Road.

"It is a lot of inconvenience, but again, the biggest thing is we are lucky we didn't have any water outages, no boil water advisories," said Cary Public Works Director, Scott Hecht. "We got on it quick, but it is a big inconvenience having that road closed at rush hour."

All water was deemed safe for consumption.
