Water Institute signs agreement with Pacific organization

Posted 8:31 a.m. Thursday

— The Water Institute of the Gulf has signed a cooperation agreement with a group of Pacific countries to share coastal research information.

Charles Groat, president and CEO the Water Institute of the Gulf in Baton Rouge, tells The Advocate (http://bit.ly/2fVgdpj) the primary motivation was to take what they have learned in coastal Louisiana and apply it in other regions.

A memorandum of understanding sets out the framework for cooperation with the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme for future work, including sharing information, numerical modeling and planning.

Areas of common interest include climate change, sea level rise, coastal planning, ecosystem restoration, coastal geomorphology, water resource management, and the protection of the environment and infrastructure of coastal areas.
