— More than 43,000 Raleigh homes will see changes in their garbage, yard waste and recycling collection days, city officials said Friday.

The changes will begin the week of Sept. 3.

Officials said the collection routes are being remapped because of rapid growth of Raleigh’s population. The new schedule will allow daily routes to be more balanced.

Affected households will receive a calendar in the mail this month that will have the new service schedule through June 2014.

"Why not post it online and let everyone print it out? How much money would that save (and Oak trees)?"

Well not everyone has internet and since they have no way of knowing, they will waste the money. Course they could just stick a notice on the mailbox of the homes that are affected and at least save postage and envelopes, but that would mean the pickup guy would have to get out his truck. We can't have that.
