SALT LAKE CITY — Search warrants say a southern Utah man found dead after a child custody dispute may have been abandoned alive in the Arizona desert.
The documents unsealed Tuesday state a suspect in David Heisler's disappearance said the 30-year-old man was alive when he last saw him in a remote Arizona area near the Utah border.
The warrants say Francis Lee McCard claimed he left Heisler in the desert after he was taken from his house.
Heisler got custody of a daughter he shares with McCard's girlfriend shortly before he went missing in June.
Authorities found bloodstains in Heisler's home and bullet casing in his car. He was missing for nearly two months before his body was found.
McCard has pleaded not guilty to aggravated kidnapping and other charges. His girlfriend and their landlord are also charged.
