Warrants: Estranged husband stalked Wake teacher before fatal shooting

Michele Kennington Williams, 51, who taught at Timber Drive Elementary School in Garner, was found dead in her Chrysler Pacifica at 1219 Collington Drive on Dec. 9. Her estranged husband, David Sloan Williams, 55, of 1228 Stone Home Lane in Raleigh, surrendered to police at Cary Towne Center a short while later and was charged with murder.

The couple had separated last April, and Michele Williams moved in with her parents. In previous court documents, their daughter, Allison Williams, told investigators that the relationship between her parents was tense, especially over the financial terms of their separation and divorce.

In applications for warrants to search Michele Williams' and David Williams' cellphones and personal computers and David Williams' office computer at Duke Energy, investigators stated that David Williams had purchased a rifle, a rifle scope, a handgun and ammunition for both weapons between July 24 and Dec. 9 and had trained with at least one of the weapons at an Apex shooting range.

Michele Williams was killed by rifle shots as she parked outside her parents' house, and a rifle was found near David Williams' Honda, which was parked outside Cary Towne Center, according to previous court documents. A .22-caliber handgun and a magazine loaded with ammunition similar to that in the rifle were found inside the Honda.

"Michele had conversations with individuals during the immediate time period prior to her death about here concerns that David had been seen driving on Collington Drive in front of the residence where Michele lived with her parents during the weeks prior to her death," the applications for the latest search warrants state. "Michele further advised the individuals of her concern for her safety and stated to at least one close friend that David would be the person responsible if something ever happened to her."
