WAKE FOREST, N.C. — A Wake Forest man was arrested Wednesday on charges he set up a date with a teen online and arranged to meet the child for sex.

According to the warrant for his arrest, Thomas Harding Dreyer, 70, of 212 Woodland Church Road, was communicating online with a 14-year-old boy and was arrested when he showed up at the boy's home.

During a Thursday afternoon court appearance, Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison said the boy's mother called his office after finding some worrisome text messages.

"Luckily, we had deputies close by, and, in just a matter of minutes, we came to her address and found the defendant there and took action," Harrison said.

Dreyer is charged with indecent liberties with a child and soliciting by computer and was being held under a $75,000 bond. He could face up to five years in jail.

Dreyer's wife said, through tears, that she is concerned for his health but lacks the money to pay his bond.

"He has a heart condition and needs a lot of medicine. He had quadruple bypass surgery," the woman said.
