RALEIGH, N.C. — A Leesville Road High School senior confessed to putting hand soap in a teacher's soda a week ago, sending her to the hospital, Raleigh police stated in a search warrant released Thursday.

Cody Austin Beckett, 18, of 5205 Indigo Moon Way, told police that when business teacher Roseann Marie Monteleone went to the school office, he slipped hand soap into a can of Coca-Cola she had opened, according to the warrant.

After drinking the soda, Monteleone "became violently ill" and collapsed in the bathroom, the warrant states. She had lesions in her throat and had to be taken to Rex Hospital.

Police seized a Blackberry phone that Beckett had around that time. They want to try to recover deleted text messages and emails sent from the phone.

Beckett was charged with assault on a school employee. He was released into the custody of his parents.

Monteleone, 46, has been teaching at the school since September.
