Warning signals installed at rail crossing where family died
The state DOT has installed warning signals and crossing arms at a Johnston County rail crossing where a family of three was killed in August 2008 when a train hit their car.

Brannon Worth Brady, 25, and Crystal Lee Higgins, 22, who both lived in Princeton and were engaged to be married, died in the Aug. 29, 2008, wreck. Their week-old son, Skylar Mark Higgins-Brady, died the following day at WakeMed of his injuries.
The collision happened along U.S. Highway 70 Alternate outside of Princeton. Highway Patrol troopers said the train engineer told them the car was slowly crossing the rail line at Herring Road when the train hit it.
Relatives said the couple was taking the baby to his first medical checkup at the time of the wreck.
DOT officials said the signals and gates, which cost $248,400, had been planned before the crash as part of a three-year, $7.6 million effort to upgrade eastern North Carolina rail crossings.
