RALEIGH, N.C. — The week kicks off with sunny skies and highs in the 80s on Monday, but storms and rain could hit the area by Tuesday evening and continue into Wednesday.

With sunny, mostly clear skies and temperatures reaching 70 degrees by noon on Monday, the weather will be optimal for outdoor activities.

Monday's high is expected to peak in the high 70s by the evening, and temperatures will remain pleasantly warm overnight and into Tuesday morning. If overnight temperatures drop below 60 degrees in the early morning hours, it will be brief.

Daytime temperatures on Tuesday will be even warmer than Monday, with morning temperatures staying in the 60s before highs creep into the 80s early Tuesday afternoon. With those highs come the area's first chance of rain and thunderstorms this week.

Temperatures will stay in the 70s Tuesday evening during the predicted storms, and rain will continue later into the evening and on Wednesday. Thunderstorms will likely return Wednesday morning with a 40 percent chance of rain, but temperatures will remain pleasantly warm as the week continues.
