Scattered showers, storms possible for rest of work week

Light, patchy showers moved through the Triangle during the morning Wednesday, but sunshine will return by mid-morning as they move out, WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.

"It's warm and muggy, and parts of the area are seeing scattered rain this morning," she said. "Once it exits, we'll see some partly cloudy skies through the middle of the day as our temperatures climb."

Temperatures were in the mid-60s before daybreak, and daytime highs will climb into the low 80s, about 10 degrees above normal for early April.

Wednesday afternoon, an upper-level disturbance will push through the state, helping generate the chance for afternoon and evening showers and storms. Precipitation chances will climb to about 35 percent between 4 and 8 p.m., Gardner said.

Muggy air will likely stay put on Thursday, but if a section of the stationary front dips far enough southward, cooler air and scattered sprinkles are possible.

The area's best chance for strong to severe thunderstorms will come on Friday as a stronger cold front pushes through. Highs on the final two days of the work week will remain in the low 80s.

Skies will clear over the weekend, allowing daytime highs to return to the 70s. Overnight lows will be cooler, too, dropping into the 50s on Saturday and upper 40s on Sunday.
