Warm, gloomy weather blankets Easter weekend

The band of light rain the flowed through Raleigh early Friday morning was enough to briefly dampen roads, but it left behind patchy clouds that let some sunshine steak through.

WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said typically more breaks in the clouds means a less stable atmosphere, which would be ripe for thunderstorms. This system, though, probably won't bring much severe weather.

"It does not look like we would see a lot of (thunderstorms) today," Gardner said. "Expect just some patchy rain, probably rainfall totals are going to be a quarter inch or less out of this system. It just looks kind of wimpy."

The line of storms will push off the coast on Saturday, leaving many counties east of Raleigh under a blanket of clouds while counties to the west will see more sun.

Clouds will roll back in to most of the state on Sunday, though the entire weekend system won't bring much rain.

"Again, this whole system is looking a little wimpy," Gardner said.
