WAPATO, WA — A Wapato man who's been on the run since May is now in jail after leading police on a high-speed chase that topped 100 miles per hour on Friday.
Jonathan Vargas, 32, is charged with eluding police, robbery, kidnapping, and other charges related to prior allegations, according to the Yakima Herald-Republic.
He was caught leaving a house in the 1700 block of South 11th Avenue with a stolen car around 1:30 p.m. Friday.
The woman who owned the vehicle said he entered her home without an invitation and snagged the keys when she left the room.
Deputies spotted him in Union Gap driving down South Main Street. A 15 mile chase into the Lower Valley ensued, according to court documents.
He ran into a house at the 2100 block of Higgins Road after crashing into some trees, eventually giving himself up.
Vargas' original charges came on May 22 when he and Raymond Guerrero-Garcia allegedly robbed a Toppenish man at gunpoint and forcing him to get into an SUV. The victim was found with stab wounds and a broken nose.
The suspects made off with two big screen TVs.
