DURHAM, N.C. — Investigators with the Durham County Sheriff’s Office are searching for a missing owner – of a pot-bellied pig.

The animal was found wandering in Stan Ballard’s backyard on Holloway Street on May 18.

“You walk out your door, and there’s a pig, I mean a big pig,” he said.

Officials at the Animal Protection Society of Durham, where the pig is currently staying, named her Sally.

“She is someone, or was someone’s love pet at some point,” said Shafonda Davis, the shelter’s executive director. “If the owners do not come in, then she’ll go up for public auction.”

The owners will not face any penalties if they come forward, but will be reminded of the county’s nuisance animals ordinance.

If not, then Sally is expected to be auctioned off in mid-July. Anyone with information about Sally's owners should call the Animal Protection Society of Durham at 919-560-0640.
