Bear Creek, N.C. — A 19-year-old man who fled from North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers on Sunday is believed to have napped inside a Bear Creek home on Monday before continuing his run from the law.
Adrien Tyron Hurley, of Chapel Hill Road in Burlington, is wanted by Burlington police for felony assault. Hurley ran from a state trooper after his vehicle was stopped on U.S. Highway 421 in southern Chatham County.
“A Chatham County resident on Bonlee Carbonton Road returned to her home to find someone sleeping in her bed,” the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “That person matched the description of Hurley and fled the residence on foot.“
Authorities spent Monday afternoon searching for Hurley. Nearby Chatham Central High School was placed on lockdown during the search.
Hurley was last seen wearing pajama bottoms and no shirt or shoes, the sheriff’s office said.
Anyone with information regarding Hurley’s whereabouts is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at (919) 542-2911 or dial 911.
