Wanted man charged in Durham shooting

Sheriff's deputies are searching for a man charged in a shooting on Sunday and other unrelated crimes in Durham County.

DURHAM, N.C. — Sheriff's deputies are searching for a man charged in a shooting on Sunday and other unrelated crimes in Durham County.

Investigators said Willis Reginald Hart Jr., 26, of 5319 Stanley Road, got into an argument with Harold Garner at 5416 Eno River Road around 5:30 p.m. Hart shot Garner in the right leg and fled the scene on foot.

Hart faces charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Hart is described as a black man standing 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 240 pounds. He also goes by Lil Pep, Peppy or Reggie.

Deputies warned that Hart should be considered armed and dangerous.

A cash reward is offered for information leading to Hart's arrested. Anyone with information should call Detective Cpl. J.P. Helsius, with the Durham County Sheriff’s Office, at 919-560-0880.

Hart is also wanted by the Durham Police Department and state Department of Correction for unrelated crimes in Durham County. DOC records show he is an absconder from parole.

Since 1999, Hart has been convicted for robbery with a dangerous weapon, common-law robbery and assault in Durham and Orange counties. He served 16 months in prison between 2004 and 2005.

He was most recently sentenced to probation for possession of drugs in November 2006.
