Want to hang a hammock? Raleigh's Lake Johnson Park has four spots for that

Posted August 13

Raleigh's Lake Johnson Park now has sites designed specifically to hang up a hammock.

According to the city, park staff had seen a growing number of visitors hanging up their hammocks at the park. The four approved hammock sites, which can be found between Shelters 1 and 2, are a pilot program for the city. Park visitors are invited to bring their own hammocks and hang them up at the sites.

"These sites will now permit patrons to enjoy this increasingly popular pastime, while protecting the park vegetation, the valuable lakeshore habitat and better ensure users safety," a city press release says.

Lake Johnson Park is at 4601 Avent Ferry Rd., Raleigh. In addition to a lake with boat rentals, boat launches and fishing, the park also has three miles of paved trails and two miles of unpaved trails, among other amenities.
