— All lanes of Walnut Street reopened shortly before 4:40 p.m. Monday, about three hours after a single-vehicle fatal wreck.

Christopher George Rendano, 36, of Wilmington, was killed when the car he was riding in hit a tree at Walnut Street and Greenwood Circle, police said. Driver Ronald Anthony Venezia Jr., 43, of Raleigh, was injured and listed in serious condition Monday evening at Wake Med.

I thought I knew the name. I went to school with her in Cary and remember her brother. Does anyone know how to contact the family? So sad and tragic.

  • twoncbois Dec 30, 2008

Yes The driver does have a sister named Carol.

I lived off Nottingham Drive from '84-'97, the area of the accident is odd, but it is often treacherous especially this time of year. I remember traffic backing up from Crossroads and from the mall coming to almost the intersection of Walnut and Nottingham during this shopping season. I used to drive out the backside of the neighborhood to avoid it. I don't directly know the families involved, but do know somebody that was a neighbor and friend of the driver....my prayers are with both families.

Sister of Chris...sorry for the loss of your brother. Very sad. My mom lives very close to the site. I have a random question...does the driver of the car have a sister named Carol?

I saw this wreck and drive this strech every day. I sure did hear all the sirens and see the trucks which is what caught my attention. In the direction they were driving if they didnt turn for the curve that is there they basically go right into the tree that they hit. That tree is in the front yard of a friend of mine.

Terrible accident - Praying for the family and the First Responders who tried there hardest to get them out.

I came through this scene about 3:00 today. I knew something awful had happened by the amount of police cars present.

Very sad. Praying for the family.

It's definitely an odd place for a fatal accident....wonder if the driver suffered a medical thing that caused them to lose control. Very sad regardless of how it happened.
