RALEIGH, N.C. — Authorities at North Carolina State University issued a crime alert early Sunday after four students in two different dorms reported having their wallets stolen.

According to investigators, an unidentified man entered the first unlocked room in the Avent Ferry Complex at about 3:15 a.m. and took two wallets from a dresser. About 20 minutes later, police said a person believed to be the same man entered an unlocked room at Syme Hall and took money from wallets.

The man was described as black, 35 to 40 years old, about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a muscular build. He was wearing a black T-shirt, black hat and blue jeans, police said. The man left the scene in a black or dark colored Chevy HHR, police said

Campus police said students should keep doors and windows locked even when they are home and hide or secure valuables.

Students wanting to report suspicious activity or crime on campus should call 911 or 919-515-3000.
