CARY, N.C. — Wake County will transfer some responsibility for fire service from the county to the Cary Fire Department effective July 1.

Western Wake Fire Station No. 2, located at 325 E. Durham Road in Cary, will be closed. The Cary Fire Department will serve the 157 of the 747 residential addresses previously served by Western Wake Fire Station No. 2. The rest of the homes will be served by Western Wake Fire Station No.1, located at 4021 District Drive.

The Cary Fire Department will:

  • Furnish fire protection and related emergency services (including medical response).
  • Send an additional unit (engine or truck company) to structure fires in the area previously served by Western Wake Fire Station No. 2.
  • Continue cooperation in the "quickest unit response" plan. The fire unit that can arrive at an emergency the quickest is dispatched to supplement the response from the department responsible.
