— Private school enrollment across the state reached a new record this year with about 95,000 students attending religious and independent schools.

But those record numbers were not replicated in Wake County.

There are roughly 14,000 students enrolled in private schools in Wake County. That’s about 700 more than last school year.

Wake County Public Schools saw a jump of 7,500 students this year.

I'd like to know the numbers for homeschoolers in this area. I bet that number has jumped tremendously in recent years. If you can't afford a private school, or can't get in, homeschooling is your only other option, and more and more people are choosing it.

    BTW 700 of 14000 is 5%
    7500 of 128,000 is 5.8%

Mickey, good point!! our school has been full for several years with only very few seats opening, mostly when someone moves out of the area.

Did they ever think that enrollment in private schools is limited because most have waiting lists and can't accomodate all those trying to get in!

Wonder if they are tracking who is moving out of the county? I did 8 schools in 12 years in Wake County and I wouldn't put my kids through that for anything...now living in an adjacent county and my kids are in middle/high school and they haven't had to change districts ONCE! Wouldn't take a free house in any part of Wake County if it meant I had to deal with that public school system!

Yes, 700 children with families who care about their education, pulled out of their FREE education and decided to PAY thousands of $$$$ to get away from Wake County Schools, while 7500 ( how many illegals?) jumped in .
Tritech, you are so right. Did no one read this before it was run???

You guys should fire these fourth grade interns and at least get someone with a high school education. Who really writes this garbage, and better yet, who approves of it?
