MORRISVILLE, N.C. — The Wake County Public School System will hear from parents Wednesday night about a proposal that could shift hundreds of students and employees from Brier Creek Elementary School in Raleigh to a new school in Morrisville.

The new school, which is called E-38, will open in 2016 at 5751 Comstock Road, is about 2.5 miles southwest of Brier Creek. School system officials have recommended opening the new school on a year-round schedule and transitioning Brier Creek to a traditional-calendar schedule.

Officials say the current building isn't built to efficiently serve students on a year-round calendar. Brier Creek currently has 38 permanent classrooms and six temporary classrooms. The new school will have 52 classrooms, which officials say better equips it to support year-round classes.

Many of the students assigned to Brier Creek in 2015-16 would likely be assigned to the nearby, new year-round school in 2016-17, according to the school system.

Wednesday's information session is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Brier Creek Elementary School cafeteria.
