Wake County Public School System will hold two magnet mini-fairs for rising kindergarten families next month.

As I've written before, if your child will be attending kindergarten next fall or summer (if you have a year-round student), now is the time to start making your decisions about where you want him to go. I'm right there with you! I have a rising kindergartner as well.

The mini-fairs offer a chance for parents to talk to school staff and parents to learn more about the programs and schools. It's a great way to understand the difference between all of the programs that are offered. Of course, it's always best to follow up with a visit to the actual school. You can contact individual schools to find out when tours are offered.

Here's the schedule for the mini-fairs:

9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Dec. 2, at Millbrook Magnet Elementary School, Raleigh.

9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Dec. 9, at Farmington Woods Magnet Elementary School, Cary.

Wake's magnet program website has much more information.
