Wake schools spokesman resigns

Posted August 15, 2011

— A longtime spokesman for the Wake County Public School System resigned Friday.

Michael Evans, the district's chief communications officer of nine years, submitted his resignation Friday, schools spokesman Greg Thomas said.

Thomas did not give a reason for Evans' resignation, and Evans declined to comment Monday.

Evans will be on paid leave until Sept. 16.

I agree with many of the comments posted. It seems pay scales are out of balance. Mr. Evans was making $126,000 plus per year and the ironic part is that he was in charge of communications and yet no one really knew what he did nor was he very vocal in the community. Maybe during these economic times Mr. Tata needs to review all the management positions within WCPSS Central Office.

Let the board chair speak for them. Who needs a spokesman anyway?

what goes around comes around.Thank you Mr.Tata.Now clean out the over paid people in the Print Shop.It now takes three to run the front office when nine years ago it took one, over staffed you think .I know so.While you have the broom check into all the comp time M.R.Evan's staff was allowed to make in the money crunch times.Thank you MR Tata clean house my friend.I am so thankful your position was filled from outside Wake County Schools System.
You should meet with staff that has left or retired from WCPSS.These people can tell you the real problems with the system. Feed up tax payer and retiree

Another example of goverment waste, on a small local scale. Average citizen would be shocked if they knew what some of those in upper state and our Fed. goverment were getting. No wonder our goverment is broke.

On the televised report at 5:30, they reported Evans resigned and his wife, who was an assistant to Supt. Tata has been reassigned to another position. Could something be rotten in the state of Denmark on a personal level?????

  • whistler411 Aug 15, 2011

An earlier story said his yearly salary was $126,000+ a year. Definitely don't fill this position....... That's almost 4 teaching positions, if they all have less than 3 years of experience.

    He must have been bored.

WCPSS has a spokesman, who knew? It seems to me this position could and should be done by the board or its lawyer.
